TRANSPORTATION. BORDIN: LOGISTICS, CECCARELLI A 45-YEAR REFERENCE POINT.

From infrastructure upgrades to labor shortages, and the need for new spaces to relaunch Friuli Venezia Giulia's role as an international logistics hub, many topics were discussed during the meeting between the President of the Regional Council, Mauro Bordin, and the top management of the Ceccarelli Group at their headquarters in Viale Venezia, Udine. This is where, in 1979, the transport company founded by Bernardino Ceccarelli was born and is now led by his wife, Mariarosa Zermano, and son Luca, who are respectively Vice President and President of the Group

"A family-owned company, deeply rooted in the local community and involved in both sports and social initiatives, which I was pleased to learn more about," commented the president of the Regional Legislative Assembly. "It is through meetings and discussions with the local community that we understand the real needs of various realities and can therefore develop the necessary interventions to address critical issues," added Bordin.

Ceccarelli Group, active in the logistics and transportation sector for 45 years, has 350 employees. In addition to its two headquarters in Udine, it also has offices in Trieste, Padua, Milan, and Prato, with three hubs located in Pradamano, Tolmezzo, and Budoia. It provides a comprehensive integrated logistics service: from the transport of goods by road in Italy and Europe to warehouse management for customer companies, and even customs clearance, the latest addition to the company's activities.

Even in this sector, the shortage of labor is a worrying reality. "There is a shortage of 30,000 drivers in Italy, but it is also difficult to find skilled warehouse workers," explained Luca Ceccarelli, who described the path taken by the Group, not without bureaucratic difficulties, to hire drivers from Argentina, whose integration has proven to be easier. "The demographic winter is a very worrying prospect," observed Bordin, "and birth rate incentive policies, although significantly strengthened, are unlikely to completely reverse the current trend, in the absence of a cultural change in society as well." The president of the Regional Council committed to exploring the possibility of promoting the training of personnel abroad, primarily in countries with a strong component of second and third-generation regional emigrants, and then announced that, to make our territory more attractive, they are considering how to incentivize the recovery of unused housing to transform them into rental properties for workers.

Friuli Venezia Giulia, in addition to its geographical position, with the Tarvisio pass as an alternative to the Brenner for reaching Northern Europe, has another card to play in its favor for the development of logistics: the still competitive price of storage areas for goods. "Targeted interventions by the public sector would be needed to support the redevelopment of existing and currently unused assets," noted Ceccarelli, "which has high costs also linked to the disposal of asbestos." Bordin assured that the legislature would also pay attention to this issue. The meeting, which was also attended by the managing director, Gabriel Fanelli, and the administrative director, Giacomo Bertoli, concluded with a visit to the headquarters in Viale Venezia, from the offices to the warehouses. Ceccarelli Group closed 2023 with a consolidated turnover of 56 million euros, an 8% increase compared to 2022 despite a year of great uncertainty due to rising costs and the geopolitical situation.

"We were honored by the visit of President Mauro Bordin, who with his presence and listening has shown us the Region's closeness," concluded Luca Ceccarelli. "A cordial and wide-ranging meeting, thank you for your time and for your sensitivity in listening to our reality," concluded the president of the Group.
